Empowering and Inspiring Others
Dr. Travis is an educational leader who is passionate about helping others and elevating the consciousness of her community. She has over 28 years of direct experience in the educational field. She has performed multifaceted roles such as Teacher, Special Education Department Chair, Curriculum Coordinator, Assistant Principal, Behavior Coach and most recently, Administrative Dean. She earned National Board Certification at her neighborhood junior high school. To her knowledge, she was the first and only Special Education Teacher to achieve the accomplishment at Brownsville Middle, a Title I School.
Dr. Travis studied Special Education, Clinical Teaching and Diversity at the University of West Florida where she also earned a Doctoral degree. She earned the degree as a single parent of two young children while in service in public education schools. Dr. Travis has been responsible for the provision of special education services for hundreds of students. She has provided her unique insight to both parents and teachers. She continues to share her unique experiences and fresh perspectives to guide and empower others in her field. She is an educational specialist that is able to empower others from diverse backgrounds.
Dr. Travis prioritized her personal and professional growth in her small hometown Pensacola, Florida. She is a first generation scholar that accepted the responsibility inherent to her roles as parent, student and educator. As she gained knowledge, she gained skills that contributed to greater self determination. Because she personally held herself accountable, actively pursued her goals, and aligned her education with her own desires and needs, Dr. Travis navigated the educational system in a nontraditional manner. For example, while studying Multicultural Teacher Education, she analyzed the impact of race, class and gender to theorize her role as a Black woman and educational leader. She drew from the well of Black Feminist thought to construct the Afro-feminist Dramaturgical perspective then go on to demonstrate her abilities in the profession itself. In her dissertations' dedication she wrote, " I stand on the backs of other Black women" because she had never known Black women who stopped working but unselfishly dedicated themselves to improving the lives of others no matter how tired they were in the "field". She recognize the role of Black Women as leaders, educators, mothers an aunts Since earning her Ed.D, Dr. Travis has worked with educators and students from diverse backgrounds. She has worked to address educational barriers that hinder students with disabilities. She is a professional with a wealth of skills. Like others, there have been times when she felt overwhelmed by the reality of misbehaving students who lack foundational skills. However, she persists, endures and keep going in the face of significant changes in the educational field.
Dr. Travis is dedicated to civic innovation. As founder of A Special Treasure Consulting and Coaching LLC., she supports others as they assume responsibility for analyzing their particular roles and experiences. She assists others by helping them to create meaning, significance and take control. Dr. Travis has earned a reputation for empowering students through engaging educational practices, facilitating self empowerment, and advocating on behalf of individuals with disabilities For years she has supported others in underserved communities.
Dr. Travis is a relational educational leader that helps others. Educators who she has mentored were more likely to actively pursue their goals and improve their professional skills. Colleagues, parents, and students testify that they experienced greater satisfaction and overall well-being while working with her. Dr. Travis has transformed her life as a result of aligning her thoughts, feelings and actions with her highest and most authentic self.
Dr. Travis has recently assumed a new role as an entrepreneur. She seeks opportunities to rediscover herself and utilize untapped potential. She continues to live from her soul and redefine her role. Dr. Travis is an Inspirational Speaker, Educational Leader, Mindset Coach and Mentor. Her professional preparation makes her most valuable for stakeholders who understand the need to impact their communities.
Dr. Travis has a goal to help others fulfill their potential and live a purposeful life. She is committed to providing a safe and supportive space for others to explore the need for self determination and reslience in today's world. She shares her story while leading as an example of how someone can thrive despite sometimes overwhelming challenges and contribute to their field.
